7th Independence Anniversary Reception Held at the Myanmar Embassy in Japan

On February 7, a commemorative reception celebrating the 77th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar was held at the Myanmar Embassy in Japan. The reception was attended by over 300 people, including ambassadors from ASEAN countries, ambassadors and diplomats from embassies in Japan, Japanese members of parliament, representatives of Japanese and Myanmar companies, Japanese university officials and students, and private individuals with close ties to Myanmar, filling the venue to capacity.
Myanmar Ambassador to Japan, H.E. Soe Han, delivered a speech at the reception, explaining the history of Myanmar’s independence struggle, the long-standing friendship between Myanmar and Japan, the political and economic development of Myanmar, and the trade and investment situation between Myanmar and Japan. He emphasized the importance of further strengthening the friendly relations between the two countries.

Vice Chairman’s Business Trip to Myanmar

Vice President Chairman Mr. Yusuke Watanabe traveled to Myanmar from January 27 to February 13, 2025. This was his first trip to Myanmar in 2025. In Yangon, he met with Japanese government officials, representatives of Japanese private companies operating in Myanmar, and political party officials to exchange views. He also inspected the current state of the electronic trade and customs system “MACCS,” introduced to Myanmar Customs through Japan’s grant aid, which has become completely paperless.
In Naypyidaw, he met with key ministers of the Myanmar government to exchange views on various topics, including the general election schedule and the future direction of Myanmar. He also visited the MSME (Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises) Product Expo being held in Naypyidaw and was impressed by the increase in the number of exhibition booths and the diversification and sophistication of the products compared to the previous expo.

The Board Meeting of Directors and Extraordinary General Meeting was held.

The Board of Directors and Extraordinary General Meeting was held, during which Vice Chairman Mr. Yusuke Watanabe explained the future operational policies of the association. He also provided updates on the recent situation in Myanmar, including the outlook for the extension of the state of emergency and the general election schedule.

The Myanmar Culture and Cuisine Day

The Myanmar Culture and Cuisine Day was held at the Myanmar Embassy in Japan with the aim of promoting Myanmar’s traditional culture and cuisine. The event was attended by over 200 people, including ambassadors, ambassador’s spouses, diplomats from foreign embassies in Japan including ASEAN countries, Myanmar government students studying in Japan from various ministries, Japanese company representatives, Japanese students, and our association’s secretariat.
The event featured performances such as Bagan dances, harp music, and traditional Chinlone performances using rattan balls. Participants were also treated to traditional Myanmar dishes such as coconut noodles, tea leaf salad, milk tea, and sweets.

Vice President Mr. Yusuke Watanabe traveled to Myanmar from November 11 to 26, 2024. This was his fifth trip to Myanmar in 2024. In Naypyidaw, he met with key ministers of Myanmar government and exchanged views on various topics, including the general election. In Yangon, he also exchanged opinions with Japanese government officials and representatives of Japanese private companies operating in Myanmar.

25th Japanese Speech Contest

On Saturday, November 9, 2024, the 25th Japanese Speech Contest was held in Yangon, co-hosted by the Embassy of Japan in Myanmar, the Japan Foundation Yangon Japanese Cultural Center, and the Myanmar Association of Japan Alumni (MAJA). Having supported this speech contest for many years, our association awarded the winner with a round-trip ticket between Yangon and Tokyo to participate in the ASEAN Japanese Speech Contest to be held in Tokyo in 2025.
